Sunday

Ros Marino Italian Restaurant, Johor Bahru

Location: Jalan Kuning, Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru.

Was told one of the best authentic Italian cuisine restaurant in Johor Bahru, and its indeed true.

Price: Set Lunch was only RM15 for a main course (a few options to choose from) and a soup of the day.
Ala carte main courses range from RM20-50. Beverages range from RM9-20....
Average RM30-50 per pax.

Aglio olio spaghetti with grilled chicken chop;
Linguine funghi;
Fish and Chip with tartar sauce;
Cafe latte;
Mango parfait;
Tiramisu;
Soup of the day;
Seafood pizza.

Thursday

Carffee coffee bar

Location: 51-01, Jalan Molek 2/1, Tmn Molek, 81100 Johor Bahru

URL: https://www.facebook.com/pages/CaRFFee-Coffee-Bar

The signage of the cafe is big enough to notice from outside on the road, however, the cafe is situated at 2nd floor of a corner shoplot. It is a hotel at groundfloor.

The cafe gives you an image totally different from what you saw from outside with the weird hotel below. The cafe itself is rather much more fashionable and architecture.

The stainless steel menu is really heavy

Grape juice tea

Smoked duck garden salad - the smoked duck is tender and juicy, goes well with the fresh veggie, good try

Mochaccino and macadamia latte

Seafood risotto - tasted more like a baked rice than a risotto. I would give a BAD comment to this dish.

Tiramisu - was being recommended as the cafe's signature.
If it's supposed to be a signature, then I would expect more, and I was a bit disappointed.

I will recommend this, Mix fruit waffle, this should be the signature.

Spring chicken - not bad

Overall price range at about Starbuck's/ Coffeebean's. Good ambient for an afternoon high tea. Service quality was above average. Worth to pay for a few more visits.

Tuesday

O'reilly's Irish Tavern & Grill

Location: 54 JLN MOLEK 2/2, TAMAN MOLEK, JOHOR BAHRU

An Irish style bar, the interior is like an Irish Tavern, a place for drinkers, with a full set of menu from starter appetizers to main courses and desserts.

I think other time than after 7pm, there are very few people visiting the place, it was only my table occupied when I visited. People could have only visiting during dinner or drinking hour.

Tropical mixed fruit punch, from the mocktail menu. Taste like just any other tropical fruit punch...

Bangers 'N' Mash -- 2 Jumbo sausages with mashed potato in onion pepper gravy. The jumbo sausage was just ordinary sausage, i would expect a bradwurst better, the mashed potato is very milky smooth and tasty goes well with the gravy. No wonder the waitress that recommended this dish stressed that other customers even requested this dish without sausage.

Smoked salmon baked rice, except it was too salty from the smoked salmon, it was tasty after all. But I hate all the peppers.

One of the recommended, Grill Chicken Chop, comes with black pepper sauce and crispy potato chips. The chicken chop was grilled to crisp skin, whilst the meat still juicy and tender. GOod try.

Could be a homey restaurant in the neighborhood. But don't think will pay a 2nd visit as it is a bit far from city centre, neither from my house.

Wednesday

MeiShan SzeChuan Chinese Restaurant

Location: Mutiara Hotel, Johor Bahru (Next to Holiday Plaza, nearby KSL city)
the signboard

the interior is very chinese

Yee Sang, RM48, special menu for Chinese New Year, all the ingredients provided in this plate are not better than any package you can get in any supermarket, with only a few very thinly sliced salmon which I can hardly find any of them after mixing up, a big puke.

See, gone our salmon slices in the mess.

mixed platter, left: sweet-sour fried chicken dices, top: vermicelli rolls, right: spicy and sour shitake mushrooms salad (good try), bottom: Yam puff with BBQ chicken. ABove average taste with new cooking recipe.

It tasted like Gong Bao shrimp balls, so-so only.

Roasted duck with golden buns, a signature dish of the restaurant, must try. But it is really very expensive compared to any other restaurant.

Mapo Tofu (Hot and spicy bean curd ) a very original taste, the spicy rate was just right. Very up to standard of a genuine Sze Chuan Cuisine.

Fried Cantonese noodle

Dessert - egg white puff with red bean paste

the puff was made with whipped fluffy egg white which was fried into bun shaped, topped with icing sugar. Soft in texture.
the filling was smooth red bean paste

Sunday

Kampachi Japanese Restaurant @ Johor Premium Outlet

Top: Apple and berry tea, RM18 per pot refillable; bottom: Goma (sesame) ice cream topped with a piece of blueberry, RM14.

The tea was just ordinary which we could get at any other tea shop.
The ice cream is rich in taste, true sesame fragrant, however, I don't think I have to spend that much to enjoy it in Japan itself ~_~

Soft shell crab maki, RM50. Giant rice handroll with giant criispy soft shell crab which can be a main course of 1 pax.

Gintara Teriyaki set, RM50. Teriyaki grilled cod fish fillet with sides of prickled zuchini, miso soup, white rice, sauteed radish slices, soy sauce eggplant, and fresh fruits.

Chirashi don, RM50, raw fish sashimi (tuna, salmon, octopus) topped on vinegared rice, with sides of prickled zuchini, miso soup, white rice, sauteed radish slices, soy sauce eggplant, and fresh fruits.

In general, the freshness, quality and taste of food is good. However, the service are slow and inexperienced, taste is not value to money compared to other locally available Japanese Restaurant. What a disappointment.

Monday

Soul Thai Restaurant

Location: 3-G, Jalan Bestari 3/5, Nusa Bestari

This is a thai restaurant, attaching next to its Thai reflexology and spa centre. Relaxing interior, while waiting for companions receiving spa service, the others can spend time having meal at the restaurant. Or you can just dine-in without the purpose of going to spa.

Iced plum tea, nice new try you can't get else where.

Dessert - cendol sago sweetened chestnuts in coconut milk

Well, the taste is just so-so.

Seafood rice noodle salad, spicy and sour very appetizing to be a starter.

Deep fried kangkung, 1st time trying fried kangkung which surprised me that Kangkung can be fried too! To go with a special sauce provided, otherwise it will be too dry to go with rice.

Steamed squid rings, its not fishy at all with the soury lime juice, very appetizing as well, best goes with steamed white rice.

Tom-yum gung, the portion is definitely too much for two person even though this is the smallest portion to choose from.

Pineapple fried rice

Price is reasonable (considered cheap compared to other Thai restaurants), proportionate with the serving sizes, average service, cozy dining area, good taste. Worth to visit!

Friday

Ayukawa Japanese Buffet Restaurant

Location: Taman Sutera, Johor Bahru

Price: RM59.90++ /pax Dinner, that would be RM65 after tax included.

Deep fried mushroom, I think this is one of the very few must try dishes.

Ebi Tempura (Prawn)

Mushroom Chawanmushi (another choice is shark fin chawanmushi), is another hot choice

Salmon sushi, I don't think the raw salmon is fresh enough

Unagi sushi, is even worse than the one we could get from a supermarket.

Scallop tempura

Soft shell crab tempura, again, is even worse than the one we could get from a supermarket.

Overall tastes are just average, with poor service. And I could even see flies in the self-service sauce bar.... With the price of RM65, I can easily get a sumptious delicious dinner at any other ala carte Japanese Restaurant with better fulfilment of my tastebuds. Will not recommend a second try of this restaurant.
