Naminara Republic is an island of 4km diameter in a leaf shape. It was used to be a riverine island, and only became completely separated from the mainland in July 1943 with the completion of the Cheongpyeong Dam. Nami Island declared on its cultural independence and became -- Naminara Republic for its focus on environmental friendly activities and supports on culture and arts.
This island became internationally famous when the korean drama -- WINTER SONATA was re-broadcast thoughout ASIA.
I think the best season to visit the island is in Winter. Everything will be covered by snow and there were already alot of snowman in the garden. Even the souvenirs are themed of snowman.
To enter the island, we must first take a 5 minutes ride of small ferry boat which can carry a few hundreds of visitors each trip.

This island supports art and culture and recycling unused materials. So you will see alot art sculptures made of recycled materials.
