Trip@ Bukit Larut, Taiping

BUKIT LARUT
@ Taiping, Perak, Malaysia

Bukit Larut is located 12km from Taiping and situated approximately 1,250metres above sea level. It is 1st and oldest hill resort in Malaysia. It was founded in 1879 and formerly known as Maxwell Hill according to the name of the 1st British resident assistant in Perak, George Maxwell. Most of the British nobles have built their vacation houses on the hill, and until now some of the houses are still there. At the peak of the hill, there is "The Cottage", a bungalow that was built in 1890 based on the British architecture with a beautiful garden and wonderful view. In the middle of the hill, there is "The Tea Garden House" which used to be part of the tea farm on the hill.

the entrance to the hill track of Bukit Larut

visitors can choose to take automobile transport -- 4WD land rover to the peak of the hill
a ticket for the 2-way trip costs RM6 per adult.
or
Trekking up on 'bus No.11'
one of the hardy land rovers which take passengers up and down the hill every 30minutes. Each car can fit about 8 persons.

The journey takes about 20minutes... the drivers are so skillful and familiar with the tracks already that they only drive with one hand on steering wheel most of the time even during making extreme turns... imagine those 'hairpin' turns that we saw in the movie "Initial D"... and imagine u r sitting car driven by Takumi Fujiwara...haha...

the tracks are very narrow that only 1 car can pass at a time so time has to be scheduled for car to go up and down.

one of the old resort houses

The weather on top of the hill is very nice. The air is very fresh, though kind of too humid, cooling compared to the hot tropical weather at foothill. And it's cooler than Bukit Tinggi!

a teahouse for some snacks and light food serving at high charges....

a weather detecting instrument located just beside the teahouse. It is used to measure the temperature and total rainfall on the hill.

The historical Maxwell Hill Tower. Very old and dirty up there...very narrow and steep staircase, so watch ur steps and head...

Belows are colorful flowers and plants that you won't miss on the hill....

Bavarian Bierhaus

Bavarian Bierhaus
~ a German Bar & Restaurant @ The Curve, Mutiara Damansara, PJ, Malaysia~

** p.s./ this is a non-halal restaurant which serves mostly pork!

the German Beer this restaurant serves

I personally like this candle holder that reflected "Paulaner" by candle lite.

Richly blended Mango juice

plz do not mistaken it as a soup of the day, it's actually the sauce comes with the pork knuckles...
~ it matches well with the pork knuckles ^_^

the famous Bavarian crispy pork knuckle with smoked bacon and honey–pepper glaze with sour cabbage and Sautéed Potatoes (RM52++)
~ this is my 1st time trying out on a German pork knuckle, very crispy, and it's actually not as greasy as I've 1st expected. I like the Potatoes alot, but not very used to the sour taste of the pickled shredded-cabbage.

hey, this German-sized of serving of a pork knuckle can be well fitted for 2 Asian tummies...

the German Bratwurst sausages, with mustard sauce, mashed potato and spiced onion slices.
~ it's the famous traditional German sausage that you can't miss... real lot of chunks of pork meat stuffed in the sausage... chewy, crunchy, tasted great with the mustard sauce!

Opps, sorry for the blur picture taken under dim-lite.
And I've forgotten what it's named... haha. some funny taste white frankfurters, also pork. Not tasty at all so it is worth to be forgotten. Comes with slices of smoked bacon, Sauteed mushrooms (the only thing i like about this dish), and pickled purple cabbage.

Grilled duck breast meat with mashed potatoes and sweetened cherries.
~~ one word -- ewes.... Orz...
~ the most chewy+unbreakable duck meat I've tasted in my life, I was like chewing rubber or tree barks at that time, that even my jaw sored... the only good things are the sweetened cherries and mashed potatoes...

In conclusion, I don't think I will be giving this restaurant a next visit except for the beer or pork knuckles... One of the reasons, I don't really like heavily meaty meals with plate-full of pork, I will expect myself to suffer from high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart attack any time soon if I visit it more often. The ambience there was actually nice for a group's night out, but the service was not as good, imagine u were served by staffs who u don't know where their origin and can't communicate very well with customers especially at this so called high-class restaurant....
Uh huh, we actually had 30% off of all main courses that night for whatever reason we were not very sure. This made the pork knuckle really worth its value, haha ^o^

Dain Ti Hill (2) 代官山 chinese fusion restaurant

@ Level 6, Pavilion, KL

野菌焗豆腐
Baked bean curd with wild fungus (RM14)
- smooth snowy white bean curd and mushrooms in a very thick layer of baked cream and cheese. A bit too salty though... but still a very good starter for ladies who like cheese like us.

意式海鲜炖饭
Italian Seafood Rice (RM19)

- a totally different try from the spicy pork rice, it is less heavy taste and also a very good try. Every single grains of rice are stuck to each other by strains of cheese; the seafood are chunks of squid and fish and a few prawns; onion and capsicum slices did not make too much of taste in it (and that's what I wanted, haha).

石锅香辣猪肉片饭
Spicy pork rice in sizzling hot stone bowl (RM18)

- refer to my last review on Dain Ti Hill.....
- I miss it so much that I wanted to taste it again, keke... although the pork slices are not as crispy as last time, the taste in overall is still good. You won't feel disgusted of the thick layer of fat in between the thin sliced pork at all.

双拼唐风卷
Baked rice roll combo (RM28)

- oh... unless you are dining there in a big group, these rice rolls are going to fill your tummy up and you won't be able to eat other main courses anymore. Not as nice taste as expected as well, can choose not to try.
红豆抹茶刨冰
Red bean topped green tea ice
-sorry for no picture available.
hm.... compare to the other 2 choices of ice (mango topped and berries topped), it is less tasty. the red beans are fine but you don't feel much green tea flavor in it....

** the pictures of cakes in the menu are so tempting! but too bad they do not serve any cake yet in this branch.
** according to a friend, this restaurant is owned by the son of Malaysian brand MarryBrown Fast Food. Apparently he established his chain of Dain Ti Hill 1st in China and Taiwan then only come back to Malaysia to launch it.
